The more care you take over your recovery from an illness the sooner you will be back to your usual self and feeling good and healthy. If you try to rush things, or simply hope for the best and carry on as normal, you may find that you have a relapse, and you could become even sicker than you were before. Recovery is a crucial stage of any illness and one that needs to be considered carefully. Feeling comfortable should be a priority, and here are some ways you can do it.
Have Help
Something that many people forget about when they are recovering from illness is that they can’t do it all by themselves. If you have just come home from the hospital or drug rehab centers in Georgia, you may be weak, and the simplest of tasks can be difficult. Even if you have only had a mild sickness and stayed home, you could still find it hard to do things around the home.
If this is the case, ask for help and don’t be shy about doing so. Family and friends will be all too pleased to help out. They could clean your home for you, or take the dog for a walk, or collect the kids from school (and maybe even take them home to feed them so you can have some extra peace and quiet). They might bulk cook food for you to keep in your freezer. All of these things mean you can feel more comfortable and concentrate on getting better.
Weighted Blankets
You will want to spend a lot of your recovery time in bed, or perhaps lying on the couch if that is easier. Having a good blanket to keep you feeling comfortable, safe, and warm is important – you will be able to relax more and get more sleep, which is when your body can repair itself best.
Weighted blankets can exert a bit of pressure on your body, and therefore has the effect of making you feel more secure resulting in a therapeutic way to recover that many people enjoy.
No Screens
When you are trying to recover you need to rest, and that includes your mind as well as your body. If you keep checking your emails (especially work emails) and social media, you won’t be resting at all; your mind will be busy processing everything that is happening, and you might even feel as though you should be getting up and getting on before you are ready to do so.
If you must look at a screen, something simple and enjoyable on the TV should be enough. Make sure it’s not something that will trigger any relapses or make you feel down – it should be something silly and fun that you don’t have to spend a lot of time thinking about.
Meditation
When you start to feel more like yourself but are not yet fully recovered, you might start to feel restless. This is the point when you can easily think you are better and start back at work or doing chores around the home, but if you start too soon, you will be ill again.
Meditation can help you when you are at this stage. It will relax you and ensure that you can lie still for longer. You will feel less inclined to get up and do things because you will be feeling comfortable and relaxed.
