First Act ME301 Guitar Review

IMG_1161

You may not know it, but First Act makes a lot of products. They are a musical instrument manufacturer. First Act produces Guitars, Basses, Drum Kits, Percussion instruments, Amplifiers, and an array of different accessories. First Act was founded in 1995, so they have been around a while. Today we are going to take a look at one of their guitars.

This is the ME301.

I found it at a garage sale. Normally I would have overlooked this instrument, but I am always drawn to look at musical instruments. If there had been a lot of Guitars there, I would have only concentrated on the “Brand Name” Guitars and I would have missed a true treasure. I played it and well, the price was right so I took it home.

This is a basic Stratocaster copy. It has a 21 fret neck with a 25.5” ratio (Fender’s ratio). I prefer the Gibson 24.75 Ratio because it has a looser feel, but I like Strats and Telecasters too.

For what is “suppose” to be a “cheap” guitar; it has a Maple neck, Rosewood fretboard. The tuners aren’t Grovers, but they hold their tune. It has a place for a tremelo bar, but this one didn’t come with it.Oh and it has a bolt on neck which is also Fender’s mainstay.

The Me301 has three single coil pickups and the standard five-way switch that is Fender’s trademark. It comes with individual saddles to set the intonation, and one volume and two tone controls. If you like Fender Stratocasters, you’re going to like this guitar.

First Act makes other guitars too. I just happened to get this one. They make other styles of guitars as well.
I am not tricked into thinking that a name on a guitar can make it sound great; the musician does that on any playable guitar. This guitar it made well and holds its tune. It isn’t so heavy that it will weigh you down, and yet it has the dense woods that allow it to resonate and sustain the notes. I am happy with my purchase and I will let you be the judge. Here is a video of me playing my new axe. After all, the bottom line is, what does it sound like. Take a listen:

Well, I hope you found this helpful.

Take care,…

I Started out in 1976 trying out to sing in bands but no bands were interested in me. In 1977 I started playing guitar. The individual that was teaching me (who for now will remain anonymous) told me that I would NEVER learn how to play guitar because I had no sense of rhythm. I joined my first band in 1978 called "Dead Center" in Jacksonville, Florida. I played an Aspen guitar, black; a Les Paul copy and in 1981. I gave that guitar to the teacher who said I'd never learn to play. I wrote my first song in 1979 or '80. Over the years I have been in many bands but my passion has been songwriting. I have written well over 100 songs and though the early ones were kind of rough around the edges, I think that most of them could be dusted off and given a new facelift. Today I am still working on my songs. Currently I can play guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, harmonica, and Native American flute. The flutes that I play are ones that I made myself. My guitars are the Epiphone G-400 faded, an Ibanez RG370 DX, an Epiphone G 1275 double neck guitar. My acoustic guitars are an Alvarez 12 string and an old Kay guitar. My drum set is a Peace drum set. I do my recording on a Zoom HD16.

Thanks for the review of the ME301. I bought it plus a peavey 20 audition amp for $100 CDN. I’m happy with it – especially now that I saw you play it. I’m a 54 year old beginner.
